Dr MAHMOOD RASHID SHEIKH

Associate Professor

As the founder head, it is my great pleasure to welcome you to one of the top up-coming Department of Surgery, New Government Medical College (GMC), Baramulla, Jammu & Kashmir. Our vision is based on the “Next Generation-Level of Medical Education”, aims to disseminate knowledge and promote academic excellence to achieve individual goals. Just as important will be the creation of a “ medical student community” that could generate ideas and skills. A sea change has taken place in the last few decades in Medical Surgery, and allied disciplines. The objective is to establish a stimulating, challenging and nurturing learning environment for Surgery students in my department with an interest of qualifying high standard medical examinations in future at state, national as well as international level (USMLE Step-1 & Step-2 or other North American Standard exams). Our teaching methods/or aids are highly innovative based on new MCI pattern (both Vertical & Horizontal) problem based learning (PBL) that would provide students an excellent academic program to learn and share advancing knowledge about the fundamentals of medical Surgery, a “Foundation-Subject” essential for learning other clinical subjects. We are thankful to the College Administration for creating conducive environment and much needed support for the successful development and furthering of Department of Surgery with all of its requirements and other initiatives that would help us to make it a fully established department with all world-class academic & clinical facilities. Taken together, my role has provided me the honor and privilege of working with highly qualified and devoted full-time faculty and other staff, who are highly committed to achieve those selected goals and objectives to make it a department of excellence.
